August is upon us and my garden is looking green and fruitful
Great fruits and vegetables are streaming into the farmers markets- and my compost bin is filling up with corn husks and watermelon rinds. I just turned the contents of the bin with a shovel in order to get some air and moisture into the soil and food scraps. This helps the worms by preventing the compost and food scraps from becoming too compacted and stratified.

My jalapeƱos are also growing nicely. No USDA warnings here- this is homegrown and you know exactly where they came from.

My Cabernet and Shiraz vines are getting huge! These are first year vines so there isn't much fruit.

Tomatoes are ripening left and right...

... every day I get another arm load of food. I wish this time of the season could last all year!

The Early Girl tomatoes are hitting their peak but Roma tomatoes should be up next.

My hops are starting to grow cones flowers. They're small now, but in a month I'll be brewing with these aromatic Cascade Hops. They're even starting to grow up some cable TV wires. Only in New York City!

My pumpkins are also FINALLY starting to grow. I don't have any bees, so I may need to pollinate them with a feather...

The pumpkins are even growing up my fence. I see a few flowers!

I have an old clothes line post in my backyard with a date of 1880 written in the concrete. Some ivy has begun growing up it, which should look great by next summer.
